Maja Spiess

Maja is one of these interesting, knowledgeable people that arrives at your life like an avalanche of inspiration. She is many things. An artist, a creator (of things, thoughts, and relationships), an entrepreneur, a freelancer, a traveler, an amateur career-counselor, a house rebuilder, and a very passionate dog-lover.

Maja was born in 1986, in Germany. As a teenager, she dropped out of high-school and went to work for an artist as his studio assistant. This artist eventually convinced her to enroll in higher education, so she left her home and went to study sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich.

Maja spent her next years doing a profusion of activities, such as working for an English language book store, caring for a young child, working for a private collection, and studying. After finishing her studies, Maja went to work at an art gallery. Her English speaking skills and organizational ability led her to participate in many international art fairs.

Her next breakthrough came in 2013, when Artsy, a prominent online art seller, invited her to join them in New York to manage her own branch, which lead to another five years of non-stop travel.

In 2018, she left Artsy and moved to Berlin to do her art. This was also the year when she co-founded Cicada Concepts, a creative agency offering physical space solutions. She is also now contributing to the Art Gorgeous media group.
