"The purpose that moves me is to entertain! Whether on television, on YouTube, Instagram, on the radio, and maybe in the future on a stage, who knows."
Carolina's surname, Cebola, is Portuguese for "onion." The appropriateness of the name comes not from making people cry but because of all her layers. There's a hard-working and methodic woman, continually searching for self-actualization underneath her frolic personality and entertainment mastery. And beneath that, at her core, she is a caring person that listens to other peoples' needs and puts her family above everything else.
Carolina lives in Portugal, and she works on television and her YouTube and Instagram channels. As a kid, to the question "What do you want to be when you grow up?" she always responded with an unsure "Journalist". She was embarrassed to admit that she longed to be a TV host, as she'd been addicted to watching television since she could remember. "At the time, there was prejudice about the new faces we saw on television. People's image was dominant over talent or communication skills." - Carolina remembers.
Carolina studied Communication Sciences with a Journalism component, and when she finished her studies, she started an internship for a major newspaper. It did not start smoothly: "I was scolded a lot for not doing things well. It was the first time that someone told me, "This text is shit!". I realized that I had left college with a lot to learn."
She integrated the Newspaper's multimedia team, where she learned about editing, storytelling, and other valuable skills. She then did a post-graduation in Multiplatform Journalism that included internships in magazines, radio, and television.
When she was 22, her mom called her to tell her that she saw a job ad looking for a person to work backstage for a TV show and that person had to have a genuine interest in "gossip." That was her: "I read all gossip magazines. I loved that universe!" She has been working there for the past five years, having done several jobs from content production to voice-over, reporting, post-production and editing.
As the years passed, she started to feel the need to peel yet another of her onion layers: comedy. This epiphany finally materialized under a YouTube channel where, since 2019, she's been making people laugh by telling her experiences with humor and a dash of sarcasm.
Carolina is happy with her creations and job while still giving herself room to continue growing. "I like the magic of television, even though the medium is difficult to navigate. And I am fortunate enough to work in the area I always dreamed of since I was a little girl. I still need to learn a lot, especially to show my worth and to say no when necessary. To defend that my work is worth a lot and deserves to be recognized."
